You may have heard that window tint will void your warranty on your dual pane glass. Once, glass manufacturers believed that adding film to the windows would cause early seal failure. Of course, when installing a heat absorbing film such as “automotive film”, it increases the temperature of the glass.

Glass breakage caused by window film application occurs in about 1/10 of 1% of installations. Usually window film is not the only cause for cracking the glass. In most cases, the breakage is the result of imperfections in the glass or window framing before window film is installed.

The legal limit in Minnesota for any SUV/MPV/Van/Truck is 50% on the driver/passenger windows. There is no restriction on darkness in the rears. If you’re wanting to go darker on the driver/passenger, you can do so legally by obtaining a medical prescription for window film*. Light sensitivity is a basic reason for anyone to get a prescription for window film. We can even refer doctors if you want to go that route…

Commercial windows and doors, especially on storefronts, usually have security tapes, stickers, decals and other information on the glass. In most cases these signs and decals must be removed from the glass before the window film application.  They are removed because the window film over the decal gives a raised appearance to the film.
